"Many Parts, One Engine"

Whether you have seen Dread Engine once, or a dozen times, they never fail to entertain. It is not often that I instantly fall in love with a local band. Dread Engine definitely changed that for me. My first time seeing Dread Engine(DE) was definitely a life changing moment.

It was April 2nd, 2016 at the Summit for Soldiers benefit show, which was held at Park Street Saloon. I had no idea what I was in for when they took the stage. From that moment on, I have been a dedicated DE fan. In just a years’ time, DE has opened for national acts such as Avatar, 10 Years, Mushroomhead, and Pop Evil. Back in mid-November, the band went out on a week-long tour with Bobaflex, in Florida. It is undeniable that this band has been dominating the Columbus music scene. Their onstage presence just pulls you in like no other. They are showing Columbus what it means for them and their fans to be "many parts, one engine", as expressed by Sam Stockdale.

In December of 2016, Dread Engine launched an Indiegogo campaign to raise money for transportation to allow them to tour. The campaign started December 1st and ended December 31st at 11:59pm. With a goal of $10,000, the campaign brought in $3,060 leaving the band with $2,828 after fees. DE worked hard to provide amazing prizes for donations. The prizes included the highest tier of a $1,000 donation which included the person’s name tattooed on front man Sam Stockdale. The highest donors of $1,000 were Jason and Brenda Smalley. The Smalley’s are incredible supporters of not only Dread Engine but the Columbus music scene, and what an amazing way to say thank you for their support with a tattoo. Stockdale is scheduled to get the tattoo February 5th and will be live on Facebook during the whole session.

I had the pleasure of joining the guys in the studio for rehearsal in late December, where I was able to hear a few of the tracks from their new album. A few days before that recording session, I had told my friends “I don’t know that their new album could be any better than their first, it is that good.” After attending the session, I can confirm that in fact they can get better! The only spoiler I will give about the new album is that the album is going to be epic!

Dread Engine has their album release party set for April 8th, 2017 at the Alrosa Villa in Columbus, Ohio, which includes supporting performances from Chase Beaire, Tom Cline Project, The World I Knew, 8LB Pressure, Scars Like Mine, and a very special surprise guest.
